he Crow-Chiu Duo is shifting expectations and the boundaries of classical chamber music. The powerhouse pair of Jonathan Crow (violin) and Phil Chiu (piano) bring a down-to-earth connection to their incredible artistry, and a love of connecting to music-makers of today. Their “Quotations and Innovations” program explores music that evolves from elements of other music, ranging from the music of the environment to classical masters to living Canadian composers, including northerners! Special additions will include excerpts from Chiu’s 2023 Juno-award recording of Barbara Assiginaak’s “Abundance of Insects”, and guest musician Wesley Hardisty will share the stage alongside the Duo and supporting Yellowknife musicians.
This performance has a 15 minute intermission.
NWT Special Guest: Wesley Hardisty’s fiddle playing is emotional and compelling. His music is genre crossing, at times Indigenous, Celtic, rock, folk, country and traditional, making for a unique sound.
